Download or read book A Baby Boomer's Guide to Their Second Sixties written by Ryan Custer Amacher and published by Sunstone Press. This book was released on 2012-03-15 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While this book was written for male Baby Boomers and their significant others, it also includes Boomer history and what lies ahead as we experience the decade of our own sixties. This story reviews our Boomer luck, recounts the great history of being a kid in the 1950s, and the great opportunities provided by improved education in the 1960s, not to ignore a seemingly mind expanding culture. Turning sixty is not for the faint hearted. There are issues ahead. The first thing we all face is taking care of aging parents or what the author refers to as helping your parents check out. Then there are our own Boomer health issues including cataracts and prostate cancer. You likely think there is nothing funny about these topics but the quirky economist author finds humor in all of our aging experiences. This book covers Boomer issues, all in the context of our Boomer culture. We Boomers thought we would be young forever. Maybe that is why it is so amusing. RYAN CUSTER AMACHER was born 52 days too early to be an “official” Baby Boomer, but he in no way ever considered himself a member of Tom Brokaw’s “Greatest Generation.” In this book, the author chronicles the good luck of the first sixty years of the Boomer experience and guides Boomers into the humorous, but sobering experience of their personal sixties. Amacher, an economist, has a BA degree from Ripon College and a PhD from the University of Virginia. He has been a professor at the University of Oklahoma, Economics Department Chair at Arizona State, Business Dean at Clemson University, and President of the University of Texas at Arlington where he is now a Professor of Economics. He has worked at the Pentagon, writing a market plan for the All-Volunteer Army, the Federal Trade Commission as a consultant, and the US Treasury, on the Law of The Sea negotiations.

Download or read book Sixty, Sexy, and Successful: A Guide for Aging Male Baby Boomers written by Robert Schwalbe Ph.D. and published by ABC-CLIO. This book was released on 2008-05-30 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a psychotherapist who focuses on working with the issues that challenge midlife and older men, Robert Schwalbe feels that the 60s and beyond can be the most rewarding or the most miserable period in a man's life. An aging male baby boomer looking at 60 encounters very specific psychological and physical changes. The impact of these changes can be felt in relationship to others and in how a man sees himself in his world. Does he continue to fit in? In particular, how a man adapts to being in his 60s is an indicator of how he feels about living the rest of his life. Dr. Schwalbe knows from personal experience, as well as from his patients, the challenges produced by anxiety and depression in dealing with aging in a youth-oriented society. He looks at competition in the gym, sports field, financial and business arena, the political world to the social and sexual world and urges men to adapt to the outside forces. The key is in the expectations and how to recognize and plan for them. Candid and straightforward talk with vignettes drawn from Dr. Schwalbe's practice illustrate problems and solutions related to marriage, relationships, career, retirement (don't, he urges), divorce, death of a partner, fitness, nutrition, sexual behavior, dealing with adult children, lifestyle changes, financial planning, ageism, and many other topics. Schwalbe presents a heart-felt and therapeutically tested guide to keeping things in perspective in order to maintain self confidence and self esteem. Most importantly, this book is directed to the aging male baby boomer (and to those who love him, know him, or live with him). It tells him that he is not alone and that the intimate thoughts that he has about his aging body and mind are shared by millions of men who are in their 60s and are dealing with their new age.

Download or read book Crime and Justice in Contemporary Japan written by Jianhong Liu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-12-15 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an important overview of key criminology and criminal justice concerns in Japan. It highlights similarities between the practice of criminology research in Japan, as well as important differences, with other areas of Asia and with the West. In previous decades, Japan attracted international attention as the only industrialized country where the crime rate declined along with a rise in urbanization and economic development. Currently, Japan still enjoys a declining crime rate (the lowest among major industrialized countries) and a study of criminal justice practices in Japan may provide important insights for other regions. Japan also experiences important contemporary challenges which are shared by other regions: 1. Japan has the highest proportion of people over the age of 60 in the world. For criminology, this means key challenges in the victimization of older people, as well as the challenges of an aging prison population. 2. Besides the United States, Japan is the only developed country that still practices capital punishment, and its rate has been on the rise in the past 20 years. 3. Japan has also introduced new reforms in its law practice, including the introduction of new trial formats. The research in this book provides a helpful overview for scholars interested in criminology and criminal justice in Japan to understand the key issues of concern, and present a framework for future research needs. It will be of interest to researchers in criminology and criminal justice, international studies, Asian Studies, sociology, and political science.

In fact, choosing a place to live is as important to your happiness as choosing a spouse or career. And some regions, recent surveys show, really are happier than others. In Who's Your City, Creative Class guru Richard Florida reports on this growing body of research that tells us what qualities of cities and towns actually make people happy -- and he explains how to use these ideas to make your own choices. This indispensable guide to how people can choose where to live and what those choices mean to their lives and their communities is essential reading for everyone from urban planners and mayors to recent graduates.

Download or read book The Hourglass Solution written by Jeff Johnson and published by Hachette UK. This book was released on 2008-10-27 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seventy-five million baby boomers are finding themselves bound by habits and pursuits instigated many years ago -- and for a large percentage of those boomers, significant aspects of their lives no longer satisfy. But by joining revolutionary insight to highly proprietary prescriptive advice, The Hourglass Solution provides a proactive and pragmatic way to lead a better life after 50. Johnson and Forman evaluate the life narrative through the lens of an hourglass -- proposing that those in early adulthood are at the top of the hourglass, able to select from many options, while those in middle age are in the hourglass's neck, constrained by the choices they made earlier in their lives. The Hourglass Solution explains how those approaching their fifties (and beyond) can still find a wealth of opportunity by recognizing and pursuing new directions, free from the restrictions imposed by an earlier choice. Like Gail Sheehy's Passages before it, The Hourglass Solution will enlighten and inspire a generation of readers to regain control over their lives and well-being.

This aging influence in the lives of older women has finally been "outed" and you must discover what it's all about and how to avoid it in No More Little Old Ladies!
