Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Living Off-Grid in Wales addresses broad debates about the possibility of planning for a sustainable future, by an examination of rural development off the grid. Contrasting Wales’s policy on One Planet Development – a planning policy that encourages living off-grid – with a more DIY approach to living off-grid, the book presents case studies from eco-villages that imagine off-grid very differently. The text pivots on the problematic question that if planning is about the spatial reproduction of society, then why should it encourage autonomy from societal systems. The ethnographic case studies in the book comprise an ethnography of rural Wales, and the focus on eco-villages brings a fresh perspective to the anthropological literature on community by considering off-grid as a radical form of social assemblage.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If living in a town or city you are dependent on their water, sewer, natural gas, electricity, and their street maintenance, but you pay a healthy price for these services. What happens when one of these services—or all of them—are interrupted? Are you prepared for even a few days of interruption? This little book may help and not cost a fortune to maintain a somewhat normal life when these outages occur. That being said, one must remember that the first fifty thousand or so years no one in the world had electric power and yet still seemed to flourish. Although I am not expert at anything, I have built and given information to many about living off-grid from my forty-seven years of doing so. The one thing I have learned is that money is the driving force for those that claim to be “experts,” but be careful of these ads, as most if not all have never lived off-grid and only know what they have been schooled on. That being said, there are a few that are really good; finding them is the problem. So, if you learn nothing else from this little book it will help to ask the right questions to help you find those few. I have tried to be honest because if you decide to build and live this lifestyle you will soon discover what I have written is fact not fiction, and only your lifestyle will determine how hard or easy it is to accomplish your goals. Although this is about living off-grid, it has some very good ideas and suggestions on how to build or buy on-grid systems in case you lose your power, that seems to occur about every storm, especially in the east and southern states. It has simple systems that you can install when you lose your electric power, water, or sewer, and it will make these outages tolerable and may even save a life.

Dave Black describes alternatives for eco-pimping your home and lifestyle for independence, economy, and a more integrated way of life. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Mind, Once Expanded, Never Returns To It's Original Dimensions." - Thomas Jefferson Much like the previous "No-BS" guides, the premise is to look at the hurdles to the personal independence of off-grid living, plod through the options that are currently available and then boil all that information down. The plan is to make the information as simple and accessible as possible, so that can be digested by the reader; and employed in a manner that best suits their needs, budget and abilities. This guide will be tackling the 'Big Five' logistical issues facing people wanting to create an off-grid home & life. These are: 1) Power 2) Water 3) Sanitation 4) Climate Control (Heating and Cooling) 5) Food Storage (including refrigeration) Again, while this sort of information is available currently, it's spread all over the internet, consisting of videos, blogs, articles, and who knows what else. Like most of these topics, a lot of what's out there is long, wordy, confusing and in some cases conflicting. "A smart man learns from his mistakes, a wise man learns from the mistakes of others and monkeys learn through repetition." This is something I've demonstrated an ability in, to take complex subjects and present them to the various learning styles in a way that everyone can process, understand and implement for themselves. And these lessons encompass both the good and the bad. I've owned my tiny house since 2013 and this guide will be written in plain talk using real world, No-BS lessons I've learned over the last 9 years dealing with the above five subjects. Some of these lessons have had steep (and expensive) learning curves, but better to learn from my mistakes than to wander in blindly and repeat them. Whether you're looking to reduce your daily grind, take a break from the big city, or just want to reclaim some of your privacy that's been lost in the digital age, then this is going to be the guide for you. Earth & Water was the last of a 3 part series I started in May of 2020 during the height of the Pandemic. This book consists of 131 pages broken down into seven chapters which are: Water, Power, Climate Control, Refrigeration, Sanitation, Legal Ramifications and Tips. The guide walks you through planning these critical areas with plenty of pictures, careful explanations and a sprinkling of humor. This book will be useful to everyone from the novice to the expert alike.

Book excerpt: I have written this book of short stories so wherever you are I might touch your heart. To read and live the experiences. For you to know everything cannot be explained with simple words. We all have feelings, curiosity, and enjoy being lost in fantasy. Escaping our world and stepping into someone else’s. Questioning what we believe. Enjoy my words. I may make you smile or maybe bring a tear. I hope you will be pleased. There are some who don’t spend their energy to fit in; they choose to fit out. It’s not that they don’t want the company of people. But to them the company of nature is so much greater. You get to see the uniqueness of a landscape, the beauty of a lake, stars in the night sky, surrounded by so many trees you couldn’t possibly count them all. This is where their comfort lies. This is where their heart longs to be. So, you don’t have a city of packed dwellers. It’s more of a movement to live free. To live with less yet have so much more. This is the way off the grid living is. You make the most of everything. You waste nothing. You value your work to better your small piece of heaven. You depend on other like-minded people to share their experiences for your gain. And this band of brothers are more than eager to help. Any why do they do this? To have morning coffee and enjoy your solitude looking at raw nature? Well! - yes, that is one. But mainly because they are different. They took the leap of faith. And they never want to go back. I tip my hat to the ones who never allowed their adventurous spirit to leave. They were never tamed.
