Book excerpt: The complete epic fantasy "Medair" duology, containing the Aurealis Awards finalist "The Silence of Medair" and the heart-rending conclusion "Voice of the Lost". Time stole Victory. Medair an Rynstar returned too late to drive back the Ibisian invasion. Centuries too late. When friend and enemy have become the same thing, what use are the weapons Medair planned to use to protect her Empire? There is no magic, no artefact, no enchanted trinket which can undo the past. But no matter how Medair wishes to hide from the consequences of her failure, there are those who will not allow her the luxury of denying the present. Her war is already lost, but she carries weapons which could change the course of new battles. With the skirmishes of war beginning, and hunters in near pursuit, it is her conscience Medair cannot escape. Whose side should she be on? What is she really running from? From the Aurealis Awards judges' report: "You can read Silence of Medair for its strong, conflicted heroine, its playful subversion of fantasy tropes, or its deep, detailed analysis of the nature of racism. If not, just read it for the beautifully crafted prose." Keywords: fantasy, high fantasy, fantasy romance, epic fantasy, australian author

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Looks that Deceive Two prominent medical malpractice attorneys are dead. Can you imagine the stuff flowing downhill into Detective Lynch Cully’s lap? From his lieutenant’s office. From his chief’s office. The mayor’s office. The governor. He’s already facing the toughest case of his career: a serial assailant who leaves his victims unable to testify. Are these cases related? Has the perpetrator upped his game? Amy Gibbs, RN is a newly recruited med-evac flight nurse who left the ER, its stress, and memories of a certain detective behind. On one fateful call, she hears the deathbed confession of a man whom police are seeking as a person of interest in the attacks. Within hours, the lives of Amy Gibbs and Lynch Cully intertwine in a story that unravels a web of identity theft, electronic eavesdropping, and stalking amid a confusion of identities. Can Lynch move one step ahead of this killer? Or is the distraction—of a girlfriend he regrets leaving—too much? Rescued and Remembered It's been three hard months ... Fished from the river, nearly dead, Jusef has no memory. He needs assistance to feed himself. His benefactor lives in fear in the remote river cabin. She has a price on her head. For Amy Gibbs, RN, it's been three months of torture-- from PTSD. Thanks to the monster who twice attacked and nearly killed her . . . and killed her boyfriend. His body was never recovered. But now, an Army veteran recently returned from Afghanistan has enticed her with his charm and confidence. Is he who he says he is? In a series of twists and turns, the four become embroiled in the battle against human trafficking. Their target is powerful, well-armed, widespread . . . and rich enough to bribe politicians, policemen, and judges. They have vowed to fight. They will need all their courage and determination . . . guardian angels, and a miracle. The Silenced Shooter Tired of federal gridlock? Can you trust the federal government anymore? Do the "elites" in Washington have an agenda? One with our best interests at heart? Is it time to "Take Back America?" Lynch Cully has found that recovering his memory might be the easy part of "coming back from the dead." His job is gone. His “love life” is on the rocks. He’s anxious to leave the hospital and get on with life, particularly when he hears the 9-1-1 Code 1000 call—all available units respond—to a shooting at a private Christian school. Automatic gunfire reported. Bradley Graham, the keynote speaker at the American Patriot Conservative Caucus, has sent a shock-wave through the political "circus" in this country. The announcement of a new political party, the American Party, with a record number of both grass roots membership and fund raising. The mainstream political world takes notice . . . and tattoos a target on his forehead. Has God turned His back on America? Can the American Party begin to re-chart the course of society back toward our God-given rights that so many Americans have fought and died to preserve? Perhaps more than a few guardian angels are working overtime. Great thrillers? Bodies-yes. Plot twists-yes. Reading past your bedtime-yes. See why so many readers have discovered the MedAir Series. Humanitarian Logistics provides thought-provoking guidance and discussion of the core issues facing practitioners involved in managing the logistics of disaster relief. With insights from academics and practitioners who have worked in these situations, this multi-contributed book offers suggestions for best practice and international perspectives on the nature of the humanitarian logistics challenge. Now in its third edition, Humanitarian Logistics is fully updated and contains new chapters on providing support for complex emergencies, waste management and reverse logistics, the application of value stream analysis and the potential of new technologies such as 3D printing, cash transfer programmes and drones. With a particular focus on pre-disaster preparation and inter-agency cooperation, this book is essential reading for anyone who needs to understand how to respond effectively during a disaster or crisis.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Uptake and implementation of WHO’s Mental Health Gap Action Programme Humanitarian Intervention Guide (mhGAP-HIG) has been limited in many settings despite interest and effort from humanitarian actors. According to global assessments, international agencies report a considerable need for further capacity development to implement the tool within their humanitarian health activities. In response, the mhGAP-HIG capacity-building project was initiated in 2018. This report partially assesses the impact of the mhGAP-HIG capacity-building project on individual programmes and at the organizational level through case studies that describe the work of agencies in four complex settings. In reviewing these four examples, the report also identifies key factors that support success in implementation, as well as challenges and lessons learned, which may be useful for informing future implementation of mhGAP-HIG by humanitarian actors working in emergency settings.

Book excerpt: Creatures from the Eferum are a world-wide problem: creeping through tears in the fabric of space, they feast on every unprotected human they can find. Tyrland has a solution in the Kellian: faster and stronger than humans, they are Tyrland's clawed, shadowy monster hunters. But no matter how faithfully they serve, or how true their sworn word, they are too different, too separate, to ever be entirely trusted. Rennyn Claire is a complication. Secretive and obscenely powerful, she knows entirely too much about a massive new threat to Tyrland's safety. Worst of all, she is linked to a past that the Kellian would rather forget. All three of these things – monsters, Kellian, and an entirely overpowered mage – are about to land in Kendall Stockton's lap. The last thing Kendall wants is to try to play conscience to someone who can swat her like a bug. But innocent lives are at stake, and no-one else seems willing to ask if what is necessary is the right thing to do. And who, exactly, is the monster? Now she must find and support the heir despite the machinations of the kingdom's regent, sylvan curses, and the strange behaviour of once-dormant protective enchantments. While the odds seem stacked against her, Soren is determined to do her best to live up to the name of Rathen Champion.
